Adelphi Mill, Bollington
This is a beautiful Grade II-listed former cotton mill on the Macclesfield Canal in Bollington, Cheshire. It has undergone a multi-million-pound redesign and is ready to welcome businesses.
Although it’s no longer the canal that will offer supply routes, the Adelphi Mill in Bollington is 16 miles south of Manchester and within walking distance of Macclesfield and Prestbury.
HISTORY
The mill was built by cotton spinner Martin Swindells in 1856 to be run by his two sons. Cotton was the mill's primary industry, but the brothers converted it to produce fine silk. During World War II, the mill produced parachutes.
The mill was built on the Macclesfield Canal, but three years later, the railway arrived in Bollington, right next to the mill.
In 1960, Britax bought the mill and used it to produce webbing; in the 1980s, it was converted into offices.
It is now a Grade II listed building alongside one of the most picturesque canals in Britain.
ADELPHI MILL TODAY
The Lowry Group bought the Adelphi Mill in 2026 and will continue the upgrades.
